1st video... dont turn your back to the board when you are about to be hit. If he doesnt turn thats a normal hit that is thrown 20 times again, just a guy receiving a bump after a hit

2nd - dirty

3rd - stupid play cross checking someone heading into the boards but yea he shouldnt have fallen. PLays like this i wish they could just give a 4 or a 2 and 10

4th hit from behind, stupid play so if there is an injury i have 0 problem with a 5

Dan - if you watched the same Panthers-Sens game I did, then why just point out the missed Condra trip and not the four - count them four - blatant high-sticks by the Panthers that didn't get called.
My point is - anyone, at any point in time, can claim to being hard done by the officials - howver, no one listens to whining, especially the NHL, even when there is a point to be made.

1st clip: Versteeg turned when Ovi was already preparing for the hit. Ovi was facing his side when preparing for the hit then Versteeg turned. WTF do. Want Ovi to do?? Stop mid check somehow??. Sorry, not possible!
2nd clip: ya that was dirty
3rd clip: you've got to be kidding me... Seriously??? The play was absolutely uneeded! And why would you cross check someone THAT far from the boards!? That is 100% a penalty
4th clip: bad hit

I am not a panther fan but I will agree that the officiating in this league is horrendous

There are crap calls against every team that are missed every night, and phantom calls against every team for penalties that didn't happen. That's gone on for ages. They're not singling out the Panthers.

My biggest complaint isn't that the referees are human and make mistakes, it's that when there are egregious fouls that are blatantly deserving of suspensions, Shanahan contradicts himself on almost every ruling. He needs to be fired and replaced with anyone who has a brain.

Judging from the standings, neither did they.

You want to see bad officiating? Watch a Maple Leaf game. Leaf Nation has been getting the shaft all season long way more than any other team.

I don't think it is has anything to do against the Panthers in particular. Shanahan has made questionable rulings over the course of this season.

Well this is sure to be a blog with heated responses.

My take is always it is what it is, stripes is not going to change his mind and retract a call. Where the real problem is? The differing outcomes of the 5-minute major + game misconduct. Nash getting no penalty or league discipline whatsoever, Ovi getting a simple 2 minute call, but Gudbranson and Robak get the 5 minute and a game. Missing a tripping call or a high stick will happen. The problem is with the implementation of the 5-minute penalty and game.

I take issue with those who have claimed Versteeg simply turned into the hit, not because I disagree, but because the same folks are so quick to say the Gudbranson hit on Erat was so dirty. Watch Erat's head, he never turned it once to check his right side, I doubt he knew Gudbranson was even at that spot. Having seen Guds throw a hundred bone crunching monster hits, this sure was not one. You can see he ran into Erat, or more likely, Erat ran into him. Its an ackward collision, that's for sure. Guds collides and tries to step over him, but they were close to the wall. Erat has to be aware and prepare for that hit also. There is no real difference in the Versteeg and Erat hits.

I take issue with the Robak penalty as well. Defensemen are taught at all levels to lead opposition players in the direction they want to turn them. This is normally done with high hand pushes, nudges, and shoves. Robak threw a big shove, but not an altogether hard one to someone who needs to be harder on his edges. Penalty? Sure, I can live with a 2 on that, but a game? No way.

Defensemen cannot hold up all the time when these forwards are turning away giving them their backs. hesitation lets that forward spring out the side they are turning to and get that shoulder out in front of the defensemen. The NHL in general- and not just the Panthers, have a big problem there, because as Bill Lindsay points out- these forwards are drawing these big calls in that fashion by turning their backs intentionally.

The biggest perceived problem for the Cats is that they get the extras, and the Ovi's and Nash's don't....this season.

None of this would be happening if the Panthers had picked up a veteran goalie at the trade deadline. A goalie who's wife is from FLA. A goalie who lives in FLA during the off season.

Karma baby!

The only reason leaf nation gets 'the shaft' is because they like it.

The Gudbranson hit was a very dangerous play even if he did let up I have been on the fence about the Nash hit and it wouldn't let me see the Ovie one but I mean every team has 1 player that has made a dangerous play this year it's hockey and sometimes your emotions get the best of you or sometimes you see things playing out differently everything happens so fast

I agree with you. I think the Nash no-call was what has really had us grumbling around here for a while and put the big chip on our collective shoulder.

The problem is consistency. Same treatment for stars as well as lunch pail guys regardless of offender and recipient. If Nash hit Crosby like that or Nash himself was hit like that by Kopecky then there is a suspension.

When the league replies with a custom video somebody gets suspended. To have the league come out with a statement on why Nash wasn't suspended only re-instates the belief that he should have been suspended. "Kopecky turns...point of contact is the neck...leaves Nash no outlet but to go airborne...". Nash hit Kopecky with an elbow to the back of the head while charging and leaving his feet to deliver the hit. Does Kopecky need to lay on the ice in a heap so it gets "seen"? Bottom line the league gave a favor to a big market team in a playoff chase whose star needed a get out of jail free card and decided that a lunch pail player from a small market team out of the playoffs would not generate excessive negative feedback. Obviously it did so they concocted a video stating why he wasn't suspended. Just a sham. Over with. Move on.

Robak penalty. Careless cross check even if just guiding his man where he wants him to go. Can't do it. I do think Sesito stayed on the ice to add drama though. Still stupid play. Move on.

Gudbranson penalty. Finished his check too close to the boards. Guy falls ackward. Penalty severity was based on the result not the infraction. I can live with it as long as it is consistent throughout the league. Move on.

As for the Ottawa game, yeah they missed a blatant trip when both refs were looking, whatever move on. If that wasn't the 3rd period I believe they would have called it though. Yeah Ottawa had 5-1 advantage in power plays which I have no issue with since they had the puck 75% of the time.

Let's stop harping on the external and concentrate on the internal. Officiating has nothing to do with our record. We did that on our own over the course of the season by having to rely on youth in the wake of injuries, playing poor team defense for the first 20 games and getting sub par goaltending for nearly 30 games into the season. Couple with horrible PK and inconsistent PP and poof you are 13-20-6.

Look on the bright side...we have less OTLs than the Devils.
